Community Candlelight Vigil
Written By buzz McBride
In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 14, 2022, Donald Huey, Devonte Vivitter and Jaylen Ausley were tragically run down and killed by a speeding vehicle outside of the Jeffery Pub (one of the oldest gay bars in the country located on the South Side of Chicago). Two other Black gay men were also seriously injured in the incident. In response, the Mind, Body and Soul Health and Wellness Circle organized a Community Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, August 18th, in partnership with the People's Lobby Faith Liberation Movement. Held at Bryn Mawr Community Church, directly across the street from the Pub, over 100 faith leaders and community members came together to pray, grieve, and begin the process of healing together.
